How billing works
Who counts as a contributor
A developer who, in that month, opened, merged or reviewed a pull request, pushed a commit, started or finished an issue, or used an AI coding tool. Managers who don't code, viewers and people who've left don't count. Work after someone's last day never counts.
Monthly and yearly plans
- Monthly plans are billed at the end of each month for that month's contributors, so a quiet month costs less.
- Yearly plans are paid upfront for a number of seats. If a later month has more contributors than seats, the extra seats are added and charged, prorated, for the rest of the year. Seats never go down mid-year; at renewal they're reset to that month's count.
- Team and Business are paid by card through Stripe; Enterprise is invoiced. Prices are in US dollars and don't include any taxes that apply.
The trial and the Free plan
A new workspace gets everything in Team for 30 days, with no card. After that it moves to Free unless you choose a plan. If a Free workspace has more than 5 contributors or more than one team, nothing is deleted and data keeps syncing: the first team and the first 5 contributors stay open, and the rest open again when you upgrade.
Cancelling and refunds
Cancel any time from Settings → Billing. Your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for, then the workspace moves to Free, with nothing deleted. Payments aren't refunded for unused time, except as our Terms describe.
